Speculations regarding the Village Committee elections had been circulating in various quarters for quite some time. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha put an end to these rumors. He inaugurated a three-day media workshop for journalists organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs at the Agartala Press Club.
After the inauguration ceremony, while speaking to the media, the Chief Minister clarified that the government has never stated that it does not want the Village Committee elections. He said that everything concerning the matter is in proper order and that discussions are being held with the State Election Department from time to time.
Dr. Saha further stated that some people are unnecessarily spreading the notion that the government is reluctant to hold the Village Committee elections, which is not true.
It is noteworthy that Tipra Motha Supremo Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman has filed a case in the Supreme Court of India, demanding that the Village Committee elections be conducted immediately.
