On Friday night, while conducting routine border patrol, personnel of the 43rd Battalion of the BSF detained two Bangladeshi nationals. They were later handed over to the West Police Station. The arrested persons have been identified as Jahangir Mia and Hridoy Sarkar. Both are residents of Sultanpur and nearby areas in Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh.

The two Bangladeshi nationals were kept at West Police Station, where they were intensively interrogated by the police and BSF officials. Further questioning is required, and therefore on Saturday they were produced before the court with a prayer for police remand. This information was shared on Saturday by West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee.

It is noteworthy that this is the third detention from the Joypur border area in the last 30 days. On the morning of December 30, a person named Jagir Mia was arrested from Joypur. The arrested accused was an active member of the Bangladesh-based militant outfit “Imam Mahmud-e-Kafela.” A joint team comprising Tripura Police, Assam Police, the BSF, and other allied units conducted the operation and arrested the militant. Exactly 30 days later, on Friday night, two more Bangladeshi nationals were detained from the same Joypur area.

The police and BSF investigation teams are now probing whether the two detained Bangladeshi nationals have any links with militant organizations.
