This time, it was not the police but the local residents themselves who took action against drug users and peddlers.

On Sunday morning, the people of Maichhra area under Purba Kalabaria Gram Panchayat caught two drug addicts red-handed and handed them over to the police.

According to reports, the incident took place near a Kali temple in Gaburchhara, close to the Muhuri River under Bilonia Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, locals caught the two men while they were sitting inside a tomtom vehicle comfortably consuming drugs.

The locals recovered ganja (marijuana) and brown sugar–like narcotic substances from their possession and immediately informed the Bilonia Police Station. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene, detained both individuals, and took them to the station.

The two arrested persons have been identified as Jiban Das, a resident of Jiratli area, and Samar Das, from Paikhola area. It is learned that both have been roaming around different parts of the village for quite some time, consuming and spreading narcotics, thereby polluting the social environment.

The youths of Maichara area have been widely praised for their courageous and responsible action, as it was their initiative that led to the capture of these drug addicts.

Now, the key question remains — what kind of legal action will the police take against the two accused?
