The National Election Commission has not yet announced the SIR in Tripura. But the BJP has been continuously harassing people of a particular community by demanding birth certificates and various other documents from villagers. This allegation was made today at a press conference by Shantanu Saha, President of the Youth Trinamool Congress. In protest, the Trinamool Congress has called for a mass sit-in on 26 November.

Shantanu Saha said that when the Election Commission has not issued any notice, why are ordinary people being asked to show birth certificates, address proof, and identity documents? He said this is nothing but deliberate harassment. He further alleged that the administration has no active role in preventing such incidents, causing panic—especially among minority communities. He claimed that BJP workers are trying to spread fear in Tripura in the same way they did in West Bengal.

In protest against this situation, the Youth Trinamool will hold a two-hour mass sit-in on 26 November at the foot of the Gandhi statue near the Circuit House. According to him, the sit-in will be held on multiple issues, including stopping unnecessary harassment over documents, ensuring minority safety, administrative transparency, and the protection of democratic rights. He claimed that the government and the ruling party are intentionally creating confusion among the people. They warned that if these activities are not stopped immediately, the opposition will launch a larger movement.
