Acting on a tip-off, police from Melaghar Police Station recovered 1,785 Yaba tablets and nearly one kilogram of dried cannabis during an anti-narcotics operation at the residence of Shankar Nama, located near the Melaghar Lal Mia Choumuhani water supply area. However, the house owner has alleged that the seized narcotics do not belong to them and that they have been framed.

According to the complaint of Shankar Nama’s wife, there has been a long-standing dispute with neighboring households for several years. She stated that her husband is a farmer who does whatever work is available from time to time and that they are not involved in any business. She alleged that due to enmity, they have been falsely implicated.

Police from Melaghar Police Station first visited Shankar Nama’s house and recovered the Yaba tablets from an unused suitcase kept on the veranda of the house, along with nearly one kilogram of dried cannabis. The operation was led by OC Jayanta Das, along with SI Ram, SI Asit Bhattacharya, DCM Animesh Debnath, and other police personnel.

At the final stage of the operation, as Shankar Nama was not found at home, the police brought his wife to the police station. An NDPS case has been registered in connection with the incident.
