On Monday, personnel from various forces jointly conducted a massive destruction operation in two locations under Jatrapur Police Station, cutting down nearly one lakh cannabis plants across twenty-one plots.

The operation was led by Jatrapur Police Station OC Siti Kantha Bardhan. Along with him, jawans of the 69th Battalion— including BSF personnel from the New-Nidoya Camp, the Koyatilla BSF Camp, and TSR jawans— altogether more than 150 personnel from the three forces took part in the drive with a full “combat-ready” approach.

First, they moved about 12 km east of the police station to the forested area of Taichma Colony under Jagat Rampur ADC Village. There, the jawans destroyed 11 plots completely. Not only that— they gathered all the mature and potentially yielding plants from each plot into one place, poured kerosene over them, and set them on fire. Some locals watched the scene from a distance. The operation began in the morning.

After finishing there, the team returned and headed toward the forest area of the border village Kali Krishnanagar under the police station. As the convoy of more than 150 personnel crossed the hilly road, many villagers witnessed the situation with curiosity. Eventually, they reached the Kali Krishnanagar forest area without any interruption. There too, a total of ten small and medium-sized cannabis plantation plots were destroyed one after another.

With this, the Jatrapur Police Station has carried out its twelfth anti-cannabis operation of this scale.

There was no obstruction or resistance anywhere during the operation. Although the operation was completed smoothly, some negative reactions have been observed among local residents.

However, OC Siti Kantha Bardhan stated that similar operations will be conducted again in the coming days whenever the opportunity arises. This was clearly reflected in the attitude and remarks of the Jatrapur Police Station OC.
