The contribution of tribal communities to India’s freedom struggle was significant. A shining example of this is Bhagwan Birsa Munda. He united the tribals of an oppressed India and rose up against British rule. His 150th birth anniversary is being observed across the country on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has designated this day as Tribal Pride Day. Following the Prime Minister’s directive, various programmes are being held across the state on Saturday as well.

As part of these programmes, a procession was organized in the capital. The procession started from the Rabindra Smriti–associated Umakanta Academy premises in the city. Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, and officials from various state government departments participated in the procession.
Speaking during the march, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the observance of Tribal Pride Day on the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda to honour the tribal communities. No previous Prime Minister had undertaken such an initiative to recognise the tribals. The Chief Minister further said that the development of the tribal communities is essential — neither the state nor the country can progress without their advancement.
The procession organized on the occasion of Tribal Pride Day began in front of the Umakanta Academy premises and marched through different parts of the city.
