A rickshaw puller was beaten by a mob after snatching a child’s gold ornaments.

Incidents of theft and snatching in broad daylight are on the rise in the capital. On Monday morning, one such snatching incident took place in the Krishnanagar area of the city.
A woman was travelling by rickshaw from Post Office Chowmuhani to her sister’s house near the Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Krishnanagar. She was carrying her infant child in her lap. After reaching the destination, the rickshaw puller asked the woman to take out the fare from her bag and requested her to hand over the child to him. Trusting him, the woman gave the child to the rickshaw puller and began taking out the fare from her bag. In the meantime, the rickshaw puller snatched the gold chain from the child’s neck and tried to flee.
The child immediately informed the mother about the incident. When the woman found that the gold chain was missing, she began shouting. Hearing her cries, local residents rushed to the spot. The woman narrated the incident to them, after which local youths caught hold of the rickshaw puller and thrashed him. Under pressure, he handed over the snatched gold chain. The woman later narrated the incident to journalists.
On receiving the information, police rushed to the spot, arrested the accused rickshaw puller, and took him to the police station. The dramatic snatching of gold ornaments in broad daylight created a sensation in the Krishnanagar area.
