According to details of the incident, in the Shantir Bazar Purba Para area, a vehicle bearing registration number TR 08 0538 was being driven recklessly at high speed and hit a youth named Shantanu Chowdhury with great force. Besides Shantanu, the vehicle also struck several other people before fleeing the scene. Shantanu sustained serious injuries in the accident.

On learning about the incident, local residents quickly chased the vehicle and managed to intercept it in the Betaga area. According to allegations by local people, Ashutosh Debnath, the CPI(M) area committee secretary of Shantir Bazar who was in the vehicle, along with the driver, was in an intoxicated state. It is alleged that they were driving at high speed and deliberately attempted to run over people.

Demanding the arrest of the driver and appropriate punishment for Ashutosh Debnath, residents of Shantir Bazar laid siege to the Shantir Bazar Police Station. A written complaint was filed at the police station against the accused driver. Police officials stated that the driver was detained and kept at Belonia Police Station. After hearing the assurance from the police, the crowd dispersed from the police station.
