After a gap of 16 years, one of the largest football tournaments of the North Eastern region—the Padmajung Football Tournament—is returning to Unakoti district. On this occasion, a preparatory meeting was held at the Kailashahar Circuit House under the chairmanship of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy. The meeting was attended by district administration officials, public representatives, and officials of sports organizations.

As decided, the grand opening of the tournament will be held on the night of January 31 at the Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya Stadium. Around 20 teams will participate in this year’s competition. Junior teams of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, along with teams from Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and other states, will take part. It has also been reported that foreign players will participate. Although the inauguration will be held at night, all matches will be played during the daytime.
