An encouraging message of success has emerged from Tripura’s agricultural sector. This year, there has been a notable increase in paddy production, according to Tripura’s Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Ratan Lal Nath. The minister claimed that Khowai and Dhalai districts will soon become fully self-sufficient in food grain production.
On Friday, the Agriculture Minister visited the paddy fields of farmer Bishnupada Adhikari at Lankamura in West Tripura district, where he also joined farmers in harvesting paddy.
“I came to Lankamura today, where a wide range of vegetables, flowers, and crops are cultivated. With government support, farmer Bishnupada Adhikari has grown six varieties of paddy—black rice, Harinarayan, Kali Khasha, Binni, and Basmati—on five kanis of land. Now it’s the perfect time for harvesting,” the minister said.

He further added, “This year’s paddy yield across the state has been very satisfactory. Already, three districts and 30 blocks have achieved self-sufficiency in food grain production. If the weather remains favorable, Khowai and Dhalai districts will soon join that list.”
The minister also stated that the government plans to provide modern agricultural machinery to make harvesting easier in the coming days. “I come from a farming family myself, so I understand the hard work and struggles of our farmers,” he remarked.

Ratan Lal Nath further added, “Our country is now exporting various agricultural products, including rice, fish, and milk. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and it is our moral duty to stand beside our farmers.”
During his visit, the minister interacted with local farmers, reviewed their progress, and encouraged them. His presence brought enthusiasm and motivation among the farming community at Lankamura.
