The smuggling of cannabis through Agartala Railway Station is not stopping. Traffickers are being caught regularly, but in most cases the main kingpins behind the racket are not arrested. Instead, only small peddlers are being caught, or sometimes auto-rickshaw or vehicle drivers are arrested.

On Monday evening, an auto-rickshaw driver was arrested with cannabis at Agartala Railway Station. Railway Police recovered 10.240 kilograms of cannabis from the driver. Agartala GRP Police Station Officer-in-Charge Raju Bhowmik said that an auto-rickshaw carrying cannabis had arrived on Monday evening. During a search of the auto-rickshaw in the railway station parking area, the cannabis was recovered. The seized cannabis is valued at around ₹2 lakh.

In this incident, the arrested auto-rickshaw driver has been identified as Abhijit Roy (25). He is a resident of Maheshkhala in Amtali. Police have registered a case against him under the NDPS Act.
