Under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrapur Police Station, 155 personnel of the joint forces carried out a mega operation to cut down cannabis plantations. The operation was conducted at two locations, covering a total of 45 plots, where approximately 275,000 mature cannabis plants were destroyed. After completing the operation, the forces returned safely to the police station. Although people gathered from a distance due to the presence of such a large contingent of personnel, no one dared to create any obstruction.
The incidents took place in the forested areas of Bhadrabari Para under South Kalikhala ADC Village within the jurisdiction of Jatrapur Police Station, and another in the forest area of Garm Chhara. At both locations, all the plots were cut down, the plants were gathered, and then set on fire.
As news of the operation spread, around 11 a.m. reporters went to Jatrapur Police Station and sought confirmation from OC Siti Kantha Bardhan, who stated that the incident was indeed true. Acting on confidential information, the operation was launched at 7 a.m. In addition to Jatrapur Police Station staff, the operation included 69 BSF personnel, Assistant Commandant Monis Singh, G Group BSF jawans, and male and female jawans from the 14th and 11th PSR units.
At the time of the operation, there was dense fog and no sunlight. Amid this fog, mature cannabis plants across 45 plots at two locations were systematically cut down. The OC further stated that this was the largest quantity of cannabis plants destroyed in a single operation during the current season, and it was carried out on Sunday.
He also added that if confidential information is received in the future, such plantation-cutting operations will definitely continue. According to local accounts, the areas where cannabis plantations were destroyed on Sunday had never been used for cannabis cultivation in the past.
However, during the current season, under the leadership of the OC of Jatrapur Police Station, efforts are ongoing to identify and eliminate cannabis plantations wherever they are found, leaving no area unchecked.
