On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha addressed the people of Tripura. He said that public awareness, a sense of responsibility, and the collective participation of society are the greatest strengths in preventing HIV/AIDS.

Every year, 1 December is observed with due importance in Tripura, along with the rest of the country. From government offices and private institutions to people from various professions, everyone actively participates in the day’s activities.

This year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” reminds us of the need for resilience and innovative measures in the fight against this pandemic.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has been tirelessly working to prevent HIV transmission and build public awareness. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has recently honored Tripura for its notable role in providing services to HIV/AIDS-affected individuals.

Dr. Saha emphasized, “We are committed to providing services to every HIV-affected person in our state. We must eradicate this disease at all costs.”

He explained the four main causes of HIV transmission:

  1. Unprotected sexual contact with an infected person

  2. Blood transfusion with untested blood

  3. Sharing needles or syringes among multiple individuals

  4. Transmission from an infected mother to her child

The Chief Minister also noted that the Health Department has implemented awareness programs at the district, sub-division, and block levels, and awareness campaigns are being conducted in universities, colleges, and schools. In addition to government departments, volunteer organizations are also actively working to prevent the disease.

He also warned the public about drug addiction, especially the use of intravenous drugs, which has contributed to an increase in HIV transmission in the state. His appeal was, “We must protect our younger generation. Let us all work together to build a drug-free Tripura.”

Dr. Saha highlighted that the main purpose of observing World AIDS Day is to spread correct information in society and support HIV-affected individuals. He thanked all government and private institutions and organizations for their efforts.

He concluded, “It is through the active participation of the public that we will successfully fight this virus and, one day, completely eradicate it.”
