“Culture is our pride, our ornament. Human existence cannot even be imagined without culture,” said Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha while inaugurating the 100th ‘Weekly Sanskriti Haat’ held at Senpara on Sunday evening.

The event, organized by Bangla Sanskriti Kolom at Senpara in Old Agartala Block, was marked by cultural performances and community participation.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Tripura’s indigenous culture is immensely rich and steeped in tradition, a matter of great pride for the people of the state. He further mentioned that the state government, through the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, is playing an active role in reviving fading cultural traditions. Various initiatives have also been taken to encourage the younger generation to engage in cultural practices.

Dr. Saha added,

“The Weekly Sanskriti Haat is not just a platform for artists to showcase their talent but also an important avenue for rural women to become self-reliant.”

On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced ₹25 lakh for the infrastructure development of Senpara Sanskriti Haat, with the fund provided by the Tripura Christian Mission and the work to be executed by the Old Agartala Block Administration.

During his speech, Dr. Saha also recalled Tripura’s royal-era cultural heritage and the state’s historic association with Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He remarked that continuous cultural practice and training could open up new avenues for the growth of both tourism and culture in Tripura.

The event was attended by Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy, MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Vice-Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee Subrata Chakraborty, DM (West) Vishal Kumar, and several other dignitaries.
