An elderly woman’s blood-soaked body was recovered from her home on Sunday evening. The deceased has been identified as Sulekha Dey. The incident took place in Saradapally area of Paschim Bhuvanban, under NCC Police Station. Sulekha Dey, aged around 70, lived in the house.

Due to her old age, her only daughter Bulti Dey and son-in-law Bishnu Dey lived with her to take care of her. Bishnu Dey is a construction worker and on Sunday he was engaged at a worksite in the Usha Bazar area.

According to sources, after feeding her mother lunch, Bulti Dey left the house around 3:30 pm to collect a voter list slip from her sister-in-law’s house, as instructed by the local BLO. She returned home before evening and found the main gate open. Upon entering the house, she saw her mother lying on the floor. When she tried to lift her, she noticed a deep injury on her head and found her entire body soaked in blood.

She immediately informed local residents and relatives. With their help, she rushed her injured mother to GB Hospital. Meanwhile, her husband Bishnu Dey and other relatives also reached the hospital. Doctors at GB Hospital declared Sulekha Dey dead.

At that time, the family noticed that the gold ornaments worn by Sulekha Dey were missing, though her two ear studs were still intact, as confirmed by her daughter.

Upon receiving information, police reached GB Hospital on Sunday night itself and registered a case of unnatural death, launching an investigation. In connection with the incident, police have detained the deceased woman’s son-in-law Bishnu Dey for questioning.

According to the preliminary police suspicion, the crime may have been committed to snatch gold ornaments, taking advantage of the woman being alone at home, and the son-in-law is suspected to be involved. However, police stated that the matter is under investigation.

The incident has caused widespread panic and tension among residents of the Saradapally area in Paschim Bhuvanban.
