Recently, the police arrested a woman named Madhuri Debbarma with narcotics from Old Kalibari Lane in Krishnanagar, the capital. During interrogation, Madhuri Debbarma revealed the names of several drug dealers who were selling brown sugar in the city. These dealers travel on two-wheelers across different areas under East and West Police Stations and sell narcotics.
Based on the information obtained from Madhuri Debbarma, the East Police Station conducted a raid on Tuesday evening in the Kashari Patti area of the capital. During the operation, the police arrested four people along with a motorcycle. From the arrested individuals, the police recovered 400 containers filled with brown sugar and ₹5,000 in cash. The accused arrested in this raid are Jaydeep Ghosh of Abhoynagar, his accomplice Rajesh Shil, Prosenjit Debnath, and Bikash Debnath.
Meanwhile, late on Tuesday night, acting on a tip-off, the East Police conducted another operation and detained a youth with a scooter from the area adjacent to Women’s College in the capital. The police recovered 410 containers filled with brown sugar from him. The arrested drug dealer has been identified as Rakesh Dey, a resident of Radhanagar. On Wednesday, East Police Station official Subrata Debnath provided this information. He said that the total market value of the narcotics seized in these two operations is approximately ₹1.5 lakh.
East Police Station OC Subrata Debnath further stated that the five arrested accused will be produced before the court on Wednesday with a request for police remand. He also added that such anti-narcotics operations by East Police will continue in the coming days.
