World Fisheries Day is observed every year on 21st November. On the occasion of World Fisheries Day, a programme was organized on Friday at Muktdhara Auditorium in Agartala. The event was attended by the state’s Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Department Director Deepadi Nair, West District Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Biswajit Seal, among others.

World Fisheries Day is celebrated to draw attention to various fisheries-related issues such as overfishing, indiscriminate fishing methods, destruction of habitats, inadequate fishing practices, and other threats to freshwater and marine resources. The observance of this day highlights the importance of a healthy aquatic ecosystem and ensures sustainable fish stocks globally.

Speaking about World Fisheries Day, Minister Sudhangshu Das expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all fish farmers. He further said that this is a day to remember the fish farmers who, through their hard work, continue to supply fish to consumers. Since fish consumption in the state is quite high, the department is continuously working to increase fish production and make the state self-sufficient in fish supply.
