A serious allegation has been raised against Jitendra Debbarma, the Pradhan of South Madhupur Panchayat, Deputy Pradhan Kalipada Roy, and Tahsildar Arjun Das. They have been accused of forcibly occupying the land adjacent to the house of former police officer Nityaranjan Deb in Madhupur.
According to reports, former police officer Nityaranjan Deb, a resident of the Madhupur School Chaumuhani area under South Madhupur Panchayat, owns one and a half gandas of land beside his house, which has been in his family for nearly a hundred years. However, the Pradhan, Deputy Pradhan, and Tahsildar allegedly arrived with several others and forcibly took possession of the land.
They reportedly demolished the fencing without informing him, cut down long-standing lemon, coconut, and betel nut trees, and repeatedly threatened him. Nityaranjan Deb alleged that the trio conspired to occupy the land and sell it for a hefty sum. Currently, the market value of the land is about ₹2 crore per kani, which they allegedly could not resist taking advantage of.
It is alleged that around 14 to 15 people accompanied them and tried to seize the property by issuing threats. When Nityaranjan Deb tried to resist, they became aggressive, forcing him to retreat home out of fear. Later, he lodged a formal complaint at the Madhupur Police Station, demanding strict action against the accused.
Expressing his frustration, he said, “What kind of country are we living in? This land has been my ancestral property for a hundred years, and I possess all legal documents. Yet they tried to seize it by misusing their power.”
He also appealed to the Chief Minister for immediate intervention. Following his complaint, a case has been registered against the accused officials — Pradhan Jitendra Debbarma, Deputy Pradhan Kalipada Roy, and Tahsildar Arjun Das — at Madhupur Police Station.
The incident has sparked tension in the Madhupur School Chowmuhani area of South Madhupur.
