Gauranga Thakurta, a member of the State Secretariat of the All India Kisan Sabha, recently passed away. To honor the memory of this farmers’ leader, the Tripura State Committee of the All India Kisan Sabha organized a memorial meeting on Wednesday at the Bhanu Ghosh Memorial Hall in the Mela Ground.

Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, along with leaders Bhanu Lal Saha, Aghore Debbarma, Pabitra Kar (State Secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha) and others were present. The leaders paid floral tribute to the portrait of the late farmers’ leader.

While addressing the gathering, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar highlighted the organizational achievements of Gauranga Thakurta. He said that Thakurta came from a middle-class family and began his political journey through student politics. Later, he became actively involved in the farmers’ movement. He spent most of his life dedicated to the struggles of farmers. Manik Sarkar also recalled his contributions during the Emergency.

He stated that despite coming from a simple middle-class background, Gauranga Thakurta led a modest and humble life. His organizational capabilities were extraordinary. Because of these abilities, he became a Sub-Divisional Secretary, then a District Secretary, and eventually a member of the State Secretariat.

Other leaders, including State Secretary Pabitra Kar of the All India Kisan Sabha, also addressed the memorial meeting.
