A sensation spread after the recovery of the half-burnt body of a woman on Monday morning from a rubber plantation in the Kalitila area under Srinagar Police Station, on the outskirts of the capital. The rubber plantation belongs to a person named Ranjit Saha. Local residents suspect that the woman, believed to be around 25 to 26 years old, was raped and then strangled to death by miscreants, after which her body was brought to the rubber plantation and set on fire.

On Monday morning, as on other days, a young man went to work at Ranjit Saha’s rubber plantation. He first noticed dogs pulling at a hand of a body that was covered with dry leaves. When he went closer, he saw the entire body, which had been burnt. He immediately came out of the plantation and informed local residents, who then alerted Srinagar Police Station. The youth also stated that no such incident had ever occurred in this plantation before.

Upon receiving the information, police from Srinagar Police Station rushed to the spot. The location is about one kilometer south of the Srinagar Police Station. After confirming the incident, senior police officials were informed. Soon after, the Additional Superintendent of Police of West District, Dhruvanath, along with a forensic expert team, dog squad, an Executive Magistrate, and other officials arrived at the scene. Officials from Srinagar Police Station said that the body belongs to a married woman and that an investigation has been initiated.

Following the recovery of the half-burnt body of a woman from the rubber plantation, severe tension and panic spread across the Kalitila area and the Srinagar Police Station jurisdiction. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation. According to preliminary police assessments, the miscreants may be local residents. The area is sparsely populated, and the offenders allegedly took advantage of its isolation.
