Wednesday, 19 November. It is the 108th birth anniversary of the late Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi, the country’s first woman Prime Minister. The day was observed with due respect across the nation. In the state too, the late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was remembered on her 108th birth anniversary. The main programme on this occasion was held on Wednesday morning in front of the Congress Bhavan. Congress leaders, workers, and supporters paid floral tributes to the portrait of the late leader Indira Gandhi.
Earlier, the national flag, the party flag, and the flags of various frontal organisations were hoisted at the Congress Bhavan. Present on the occasion were State Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, State Mahila Congress President Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty, along with other leaders.
Speaking about the event, State Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha said that this day is observed as National Integration Day in our country, as the late former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life while fighting against terrorism. He said that national unity is endangered in present-day India, and terrorist activities continue to increase. In such circumstances, the name of Indira Gandhi is being invoked repeatedly in the minds of the people.
After the programme in front of the Congress Bhavan, Congress leaders, workers, and supporters held a silent march to Gandhi Ghat. There, they offered floral tributes at the martyr’s memorial dedicated to the late leader.
