The Kanankata Para Bru–Reang Rehabilitation Camp at Ultachhara in Gandatwisa Subdivision of Dhalai district. For years, this displaced tribal community from Kanchanpur had been deprived of education, healthcare, and even basic essential services during the tenure of the previous government. They allege that despite repeatedly approaching the administration, they received no cooperation and no sustainable solution.
However, after the formation of the BJP government in Tripura in 2018, camp residents claim there has been significant improvement. Health, education, ration, social security—these essential services have gradually begun to reach the Bru–Reang community. Yet many challenges remain. Employment issues, scarcity of drinking water, poor road conditions—many questions still remain unanswered.
On Saturday morning, Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister, Bikash Debbarma, arrived at the camp to take stock of these problems and to implement the concept of ‘Administration at People’s Doorstep’. From children to the elderly—everyone gathered in front of the Minister. Many became emotional as they were able to sit beside a minister and share their grievances for the first time. Camp residents said, “In the past, ministers and MLAs never sat on the ground with us to listen. Today we truly feel the government wants to hear us.”

The Minister listened patiently to everyone. Issues such as employment, drinking water, and healthcare services were brought up during the discussion. He also visited several households in the camp to inspect the real situation.
The Minister also highlighted a serious social issue within the Bru–Reang community. He said, “Child marriage is still widespread in this society. When boys and girls marry early, their education is disrupted, and families fall behind. I request you all to put an end to this practice.”
Speaking about employment, he said the government is working to make every tribal family self-reliant through the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission project. Emphasizing the importance of education, he added, “Education is the only strength that can take a society forward. So, enroll your children in Eklavya Model Residential Schools and Ashram Schools. The government is committed to ensuring a proper educational environment for them.”
Though the Bru–Reang community has faced long-standing deprivation, Saturday’s meeting has sparked a new sense of hope among camp residents. The Minister assured them: “The administration is with you and will continue to stand by you so that your families can see brighter days and your society can progress.”
Local residents say that if this consistent communication continues, the deprivation of many years may finally come to an end.
