A meeting was held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Saturday to discuss making the “Save MGNREGA Movement” successful.

It was alleged that the Central Government has repealed the MGNREGA Act and is set to introduce a new law named VBG-RAM-G. The bill related to this has already been passed in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and has received the President’s assent. Demanding the repeal of the new law and restoration of the MGNREGA Act, the All India National Congress has announced a 45-day nationwide movement from 8 January to 25 February. This movement has been named the “Save MGNREGA Struggle.”

As part of this agitation programme, the All India National Congress has planned zonal rallies in four zones, along with a state-level programme in each state. In this context, an important meeting was held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan.

Those present at the meeting included Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Ashish Kumar Saha, Congress Legislature Party leader and MLA Birajit Sinha, former TPCC President Pijush Kanti Biswas, Congress CWC member and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, and other senior state leaders.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, TPCC President Ashish Kumar Saha said that the movement announced by the All India National Congress has been named the “Save MGNREGA Struggle.” To implement this programme effectively, several initiatives have been taken at the state level as well. He appealed for the cooperation of Congress workers, supporters, and the general public at all levels of the state to ensure the success of these initiatives and programmes.

He further stated that nearly nine lakh job cards have been cancelled under MGNREGA in the state. The movement will be organised by uniting these deprived MGNREGA workers.

It has also been learned that similar meetings will be convened in all districts under the Pradesh Congress Committee, with Pradesh Congress representatives attending them. Similar agitation programmes will also be undertaken at the levels of Gram Panchayats, Village Committees, and Sub-Divisional Committees.
