In support of the nationwide general strike scheduled for February 12, four organisations affiliated with CITU took out an awareness campaign in Agartala to reach out to the public. The organisations are the Tripura Motor Workers’ Union, Tripura Auto Rickshaw Workers’ Union, Tripura E-Rickshaw Workers’ Union, and the TRTC Employees’ Union.

On Wednesday, under the leadership of the All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation, these four CITU-affiliated organisations carried out the campaign across different parts of the state capital by putting up flex banners and festoons. The campaign was led by CITU leader Amal Chakraborty.

Speaking on the occasion, Amal Chakraborty said that a nationwide strike has been called for February 12. He alleged that the rights secured by working people since Independence have now been snatched away by the BJP government. He claimed that by scrapping existing labour laws and introducing four labour codes, the BJP government has dealt a severe blow to workers’ rights.

Demanding the withdrawal of these labour codes, all trade unions across the country have jointly called for the nationwide strike on February 12, he said. As part of this effort, the campaign was organised in Agartala on Wednesday. Amal Chakraborty also appealed to transport workers across the state to extend full support to make the Bharat Bandh a success.
