Tuesday, 25 November, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This day, declared by the United Nations, is observed in various ways across the world. To mark the occasion, several programmes were organised across the state on Tuesday following the directives of the central leadership of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA). On this day, the West District Committee of the organisation organised a mock parliament. The theme of this mock parliament was violence against women and measures to combat it.

A leader of the AIDWA West District Committee said that a mock parliament may not directly stop violence against women, but it can send a strong message to the government about the issue and its possible remedies. This was the primary aim behind the initiative.

Former Rajya Sabha MP from the state, Jharna Das Baidya, acted as the Speaker in this mock parliament. Women leaders, including Ramadas, discussed various aspects related to the issue during the programme.
