Two wedding halls located on Thakur Palli Road in the state capital had been illegally using the footpath. The two wedding halls are Sangam and Shubhakhshan. By occupying the footpath meant for pedestrians, the management of these two wedding halls had made arrangements to decorate and operate their premises, causing inconvenience to people using the footpath.

Following several complaints submitted by local residents to the Agartala Municipal Corporation, the Municipal Corporation’s task force on Saturday demolished the additional illegal constructions of the two concerned wedding halls in the Thakur Palli Road area. Present at the spot during the drive were Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, the local corporator, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner D. K. Chakma, and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor stated that the two wedding halls had been running their business illegally by encroaching on the footpath, and therefore the illegal constructions were demolished. He further said that similar drives have been conducted earlier in different parts of the city and such operations will continue in the coming days.
The Mayor also added that freeing footpaths from encroachment is not the responsibility of the Agartala Municipal Corporation alone. The Transport Department, police, and other departments jointly carry out such operations. The initiative has been taken to keep the city beautiful and to ensure smooth movement for pedestrians.
