A disturbing incident occurred near Abhoynagar market, where a Bengali couple was brutally attacked after the husband requested a group of people to lower their loud shouting near his house, as there was a sick patient inside.
According to reports, as soon as the house owner made the request at his gate, the group launched a violent attack on him. When his wife came forward to protect her husband, the attackers assaulted and molested her. Both husband and wife sustained serious injuries and were traumatized. After the assailants left, the couple went to GB Hospital for treatment, where the woman was admitted due to severe injuries.
Later that night, around 20–25 miscreants returned, launching a second attack on the house, damaging doors, windows, and furniture. CCTV footage revealed that the attackers arrived in multiple motorbikes and cars. The incidents occurred late at night on Sunday, November 9, 2025, and again in the early hours of the following day.
The victim, Abhijit Sengupta, has filed a case at the East Women’s Police Station, seeking legal action against the attackers.
In response, the organization “Amra Bangali” submitted a five-point deputation to the East Police Station in Agartala on Wednesday, demanding strong security measures across the city.
Speaking to the media, Gauranga Rudrapal, State Committee Secretary of Amra Bangali, said:
CCTV cameras must be installed on every street, and defective cameras should be immediately repaired.
The attackers involved in the assault on Abhijit Sengupta’s house must be arrested and punished without delay.
He also urged the authorities to ensure safety and peace for all residents of the city.
