Monday marked four years of the BJP-led Agartala Municipal Corporation. On the occasion of the corporation’s fourth anniversary, Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder held an important meeting with councillors in the corporation’s conference hall. Various decisions regarding the anniversary celebrations were taken in the meeting. After the meeting, the Mayor briefed the media about these decisions.

He said that to commemorate the four-year milestone, several ward-level programmes have been planned, including health camps, blood donation camps, cultural events, and distribution of winter clothes to the underprivileged. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to use Swadeshi products and has been promoting the “Vocal for Local” initiative. In keeping with this, the Agartala Municipal Corporation will organize a Swadeshi Fair in the capital. This Swadeshi Fair will be held on December 28, 29, and 30, and will feature the exhibition and sale of Swadeshi goods and products, the Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder said.

The Mayor further stated that keeping the city clean and free of garbage is the dream of the Chief Minister. To fulfill this vision, the corporation has decided to reward the clubs and social organizations that maintain cleanliness in their respective localities. A special committee of the corporation will monitor the role of these clubs in keeping their areas clean from January to October. Based on the committee’s assessment, awards will be distributed in October.

The first prize will be ₹3 lakh for the winning club, the second prize ₹2 lakh, and the third prize ₹1 lakh. In addition, ten more clubs will be awarded ₹50,000 each. The Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder said these awards aim to encourage clubs to maintain cleanliness in their localities.
