The four branch organizations of the Pradesh Congress have expressed deep concern over the overall situation in the state. The four organizations are — Pradesh Youth Congress, Pradesh NSUI, Pradesh Mahila Congress, and Seva Dal.
At a joint press conference held on Tuesday at the Congress Bhavan, Pradesh Youth Congress President Neel Kamal Saha stated that the drug trade in the state is increasing and that the activities and dominance of drug dealers must be stopped immediately. He condemned the incidents of police lathi-charge on students and the daily occurrences of violence against women in the state.
Referring to the Bilonia Police Station assault case, he said that the accused managed to get bail within an hour, which exposes the true face of the government. He further alleged that when citizens expose the ugly side of the government on social media, they are being arrested under false charges and taken into police custody.
Saha also said that students are going to schools to study, but there are no teachers in many of the institutions. Despite thousands of vacant posts, the unemployed are not being given jobs. “The beginning of the end of the present government has already started,” he remarked.
He announced that on November 6, the four branch organizations of the Pradesh Congress will hold a four-hour mass sit-in demonstration across nine organizational districts to highlight these issues.
Explaining the seven-point public-interest demands, Saha said:
Strict legal action must be taken against drug traders.
All vacant posts must be filled immediately.
The education system should not be privatized.
The police must be allowed to function independently.
The 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill should be passed without delay.
The government should officially approve the use of the Roman script for writing the Kokborok language.
The government must take effective steps to control the rising prices of essential commodities.
He stated that the four-hour sit-in on November 6 will be held in every organizational district of the Pradesh Congress based on these seven demands.
At the press conference, Ahir Hossain represented the Pradesh NSUI, Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty represented the Pradesh Mahila Congress, and Nritya Gopal Rudrapal attended as Chairman of the Pradesh Seva Dal.
