On November 27, the BJP’s tribal leaders spoke out regarding the rally held at Swami Vivekananda Stadium in the capital. On Monday, at a press conference in the state BJP headquarters, leaders of the BJP’s Janajati Morcha sharply criticized TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.
At the press conference, former BJP MP Rebati Tripura said that ‘Greater Tipraland’ has disappeared from Motha’s dictionary. A clear indication of this was seen in the 2023 Assembly elections. The party had fielded 22 Bengali candidates in that election.
He further stated that conducting political activities under the TIPRA Motha banner may no longer be within their capacity. They are afraid to go before the people. That is why they have introduced the new slogan ‘One North East’ by involving certain individuals from the northeastern region—political personalities who had earlier formed various parties and already failed.
He added that this is merely an attempt to fool the people of the Northeast, including Tripura. “This will not achieve anything,” he asserted.
In response to a question from journalists, former MP Rebati Tripura said that the dates for the ADC and Village Committee elections have not yet been announced. Therefore, it is too early to decide whether the party will contest alone or as part of an alliance. He said the party will make a decision when the situation demands it.
State BJP vice-president Bimal Chakma also spoke at the day’s press conference. He expressed anger over the recent remarks made by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury.
He said that claims are being made by the Leader of the Opposition and various groups that unless there is a tribal Chief Minister, the rights of Tiprasas in the ADC will not be protected. He stated that a conspiracy is underway in the state, and signs of this were visible in the 2023 Assembly elections. Even though the Motha party fielded candidates everywhere, they did not field a candidate against Jitendra Choudhury.
He urged both tribal and non-tribal people of the state not to fall into this conspiracy trap. BJP general secretary Bipin Debbarma also spoke at the press conference.
