At least 15 to 20 passengers, including children, were injured after a passenger bus lost control at high speed and overturned near the 5th Battalion TSR Camp on the Amarpur New Bazar Road.

All the injured were admitted to Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. However, one unidentified injured passenger was referred to the district hospital in a critical condition by the on-duty doctors.

Describing the incident, an injured passenger told the media that the bus lost control due to overloading of passengers and overturned. It has also been reported that the bus was very old, and there is a preliminary suspicion that the steering got locked while the vehicle was in motion. The registration number of the accident-hit bus is TR03/1382.

This accident once again highlights how driver negligence and unfit vehicles on the roads can lead to dangerous mishaps. There was a strong possibility of heavy casualties in today’s accident, but many passengers narrowly escaped death. The question still remains—had there been any fatalities, who would have taken responsibility?
