A new horizon opens in Tripura’s agricultural sector today, as the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Ratan Lal Nath, participated in a potato planting program using the ARC (Automatic Ridge Cultivation) method at Karnajoy Para in Subhash Nagar and Dainchhara Village Council, Kanchanpur. Observing the program on the lands of farmers Jyotirmoy Das and Dhananjay Das, the Minister said that this modern technology is not only a transformation in farming practices but also a new ray of hope for farmers.
The Minister added, “The bond between farmers and the soil is eternal. ARC technology is further strengthening that relationship. When farmers prosper, the state’s development accelerates.” He expressed hope that this initiative would encourage many more farmers across the vast region from Kanchanpur to Karbuk.
Already, 55 farmers in Kanchanpur have been included under the ARC project. Currently, 23,700 farmers in Tripura cultivate potatoes on 47,341 kani of land. The most remarkable change has been in productivity. Earlier, each kani produced 2,500–3,000 kg of potatoes, whereas with ARC technology, production has increased to 9,000–10,000 kg per kani—marking a major milestone in the state’s agricultural development.
Minister Ratan Lal Nath further stated that the government aims for self-sufficiency in seed potato production by the 2028–29 fiscal year and complete self-sufficiency in potato production by 2029–30. According to him, this new technology will lead Tripura’s farmers towards advanced, technology-driven modern agriculture.
According to the Agriculture Minister, the ARC method will usher in a new chapter in Tripura’s agriculture and will rapidly advance the state toward self-sufficiency through increased potato production.
