On 24 December 2025, the foundation stone for the new office building of the District Industries Centre (DIC) at East Jalefay, Sabroom subdivision, South Tripura was laid. This initiative has been taken to further decentralize and energize industrial administration in the state.
Notably, before 2018, Tripura had only four functional DICs—in Agartala, Ambassa, Udaipur, and North Tripura (Kailashahar). The current state government has established four new DICs in Dharmanagar, Khwai, Bishramganj, and Sabroom to bring the administrative framework closer to the people. This year, office buildings are being constructed in Dharmanagar and Sabroom, with plans to build DIC offices in Khwai and Bishramganj in the future.
The new office in Sabroom has a proposed expenditure of approximately ₹1.57 crore. It will serve not only as an administrative building but also as a hub for industrial and entrepreneurial development in South Tripura. Through the DIC, programmes such as PMEGP, PM-FME, NBM, PM Vishwakarma, MSME project ramp-ups, self-reliance, and skill development initiatives are implemented.
Earlier on the day, an administrative review meeting was held at the Sabroom Nagar Panchayat conference hall. Attendees included Minister of Industries and Commerce Santana Chakma, Chairman of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Dipak Dutta, District Collector Mohammad Sajjad P, Sub-Divisional Officer Abhijit Singh Jadav, Cultural Department official Amrit Das, Additional Director of Industries and Commerce Sabyasachi Debbarma, and General Manager Swapan Mitra, among others.
It is noteworthy that land acquisition and boundary demarcation for the proposed SEZ near Sabroom Railway Station in West Jalefay have already been completed. Additionally, the industrial estates at Santirbazar and Bilonia, along with the inauguration of ICP Sabroom by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 March 2024, have given new direction to the industrial potential of South Tripura.
