The 20th Regional Saras Fair began on Saturday at the Hapania International Fair Ground and will continue for 14 days. The fair was inaugurated on Saturday afternoon by the Chief Minister of the state, Professor Dr. Manik Saha.

Present at the inaugural ceremony were Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ramprasad Pal, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, local MLA Minarani Sarkar, West District Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, and others.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister visited various stalls run by women at the Saras Fair and interacted with them about their products. He congratulated the women who had set up different stalls at the fair.

While addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) is doing commendable work. Under its supervision, good brands are being developed in the state, with improved packaging as well. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “Vocal for Local”, the Chief Minister said that the spirit of this initiative is clearly reflected in the Saras Fair. He added that Tripura is no longer just a model state, but has become a front-runner state, which is a matter of pride. He emphasized that the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the state are closely associated with this achievement.

During his speech at the government function, the Chief Minister also launched a sharp attack on the opposition. Referring to statements made by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury at a women’s organization conference, he said that although the Left does not like Hitler, the opposition leader was echoing the words of Hitler’s propaganda minister Goebbels. The Chief Minister asserted that such politics would not continue and would not be accepted by the people. He advised members of women’s organizations to come to the Saras Fair instead of raising slogans, and to see the products made by the mothers and sisters of the state.

The Regional Saras Fair will continue until December 26. This year, a total of 411 stalls have been set up, of which 372 stalls are run by women-led self-help groups from the state. Ten stalls have been allotted to self-help groups from outside the state, and 28 stalls are operated by various state government departments.
