During the peak agricultural season, the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments are not providing support to the farmers. In protest against the inaction of these two departments, the Tripura State Committee of the All India Kisan Sabha will organize demonstrations across the state at the district and sub-divisional levels. This decision was taken in the organization’s recent meeting. The program will begin after November 15.

The farmers are not receiving adequate support from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments — this is the allegation made by the Tripura State Committee of the All India Kisan Sabha.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the State Secretary of the organization, Pabitra Kar, raised this complaint. He stated that the paddy cultivation season is currently underway, but this year’s paddy yield is expected to be very low because farmers are not getting urea fertilizer. The Agriculture and Horticulture Departments are not providing the required urea to the farmers, forcing them to buy it at much higher prices. As a result, only those who can afford to buy fertilizer and apply it to their fields will have a good harvest, said the State Secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha.

He further added that the vegetable cultivation season is also ongoing, but farmers are not receiving the necessary seeds from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments. So far, potato seeds have not reached the farmers, compelling them to depend on potato seeds from Ludhiana and West Bengal.

Pabitra Kar alleged that during the peak agricultural season, the role of both the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments in supporting farmers has become virtually zero. He criticized the ministers and officials concerned for their indifference to the situation.

In protest against this negligence, the Tripura State Committee of the All India Kisan Sabha will hold demonstrations in front of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department offices, as well as in front of the District Magistrate offices across the districts and sub-divisions. This agitation program will begin after November 15.

He also mentioned that since the agricultural season is ongoing throughout the state, the organization will not call for a statewide movement at this moment. Instead, the protests will be organized at the district and sub-divisional levels.
