On Monday evening, a tragic accident occurred near Chakma Ghat.
According to eyewitnesses, Janmajay Roy, a resident of Panisagar, was crossing the road when a giant-sized tipper truck suddenly hit him forcefully and sped away immediately.
Panic spread through the area moments after the accident. Upon receiving the information, Teliamura fire service personnel rushed to the spot, rescued Janmajay in a severely injured condition, and admitted him to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors stated that though his condition is not critical, his injuries are quite serious. Treatment is ongoing.
Locals claim that although the hit-and-run tipper truck escaped, they managed to collect some details, including the vehicle number. Based on these leads, police have started an investigation. However, it is still unclear why Janmajay Roy was in the Chakma Ghat area on Monday evening.
Residents expressed anger, saying that once night falls, reckless speeding by tipper trucks on this road increases significantly. They fear that without stricter administrative monitoring, more serious accidents may occur.
This accident, which took place on Monday evening, once again raises the pressing question—where is the safety for people on the Assam–Agartala National Highway?
