On Friday, the Bhoomi Pujan (foundation-laying ceremony) for the construction of a new office of Agartala Municipal Corporation’s Ward No. 31 was held beside Ramthakur Boys’ School in Town Pratapgarh. The programme was inaugurated by the state BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, who was present as the chief guest. Special guests included Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, local councillor Anjana Das, along with others. The guests participated in the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for the new office building.
While addressing the gathering, Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said that the new office is being constructed at a cost of ₹33 lakh. He stated that this development work aims to provide better-quality services to the people. The Mayor further said that the present state government and Agartala Municipal Corporation belong to the people and therefore work for the people.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest and inaugurator, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, said that after a lot of hard work, a new government began its journey in 2018. In 2021, under the leadership of the Mayor, the BJP-led Agartala Municipal Corporation started functioning. He said that a municipal corporation or municipal body is not meant only for sanitation work; its main responsibility is to provide civic services to the people.
He added that an office for Ward No. 31 could have been built earlier as well. Many influential individuals had been elected as councillors from this ward, and people had placed their trust in them. He remarked that people do not like falsehoods at all and that the mindset of people has changed in the present time. “We place the real truth before everyone,” he said. The MP further stated that power may change, but working for society and for the people is their primary commitment. With this commitment, the present state government and the municipal corporation are being run, he added.
On the occasion, blankets were distributed among the needy residents of the area on behalf of the Mahanamangan Ashram. The guests present distributed the blankets to the beneficiaries.
