The Tripura government is preparing to take significant steps to promote alternative medical systems in the state. Initiatives have already been taken to establish a Homeopathic Medical College in Agartala and an Ayurvedic Medical College in the Gomati district. The Union AYUSH Ministry has allocated a total of ₹140 crore for setting up these two institutions.
To discuss various aspects of the project in detail, a high-level meeting was held on Monday in the conference hall of the Secretariat, chaired by Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha. During the meeting, the Chief Minister stated that before starting the work, it is essential to visit other Homeopathy and Ayurvedic medical colleges in the country to gain necessary experience. He added that setting a specific timeline for project implementation is crucial.
The Chief Minister also inquired about the students from Tripura who are currently pursuing Homeopathy and Ayurvedic education outside the state. He reviewed their placement prospects and future opportunities. The Chief Minister said, “Homeopathy and Ayurvedic treatment were once trusted systems among the people of the state. We must restore that trust.”
In the meeting, Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte and National AYUSH Mission Member Secretary Saju Wahid A. presented details regarding site selection for the proposed 60-seat colleges, course duration, departmental structure, and other aspects through a slideshow. Chief Architect of the Public Works Department, Sanjoy Kumar Das, explained matters related to infrastructure construction.
Also present at the meeting were Finance Department Secretary Apurba Roy, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Dr. Anjan Kumar Das, Joint Director of the Health Department Dr. Ashok Dewan, and other officials.
