The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, had called for a public rally on November 7 at Swami Vivekananda Ground. However, the administration denied permission for the event, sparking a fresh round of political debate in the state.

Reacting to the issue on Sunday, Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury criticized the government’s decision, saying that such actions curtail the democratic rights of political parties, regardless of their ideology or affiliation. He emphasized, “Every political party must be allowed to exercise its democratic rights. The government’s decision to obstruct the programme of Tipra Motha’s youth wing is not justified.”Chaudhury further added that such administrative decisions cannot be supported in a democratic setup.

He also referred to the recent statement made by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, who had said in a press conference that granting permission for the rally might lead to various problems.Reacting to that, Chaudhury remarked, “This explanation is not valid. Tipra Motha is an ally of the ruling government, and I don’t believe their rally would cause any law-and-order problem.”

The Opposition leader also strongly reacted to recent comments made by former Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb. Referring to the MP’s remarks about the Tiprasa Accord, Chaudhury stated that such comments expose the MP’s lack of understanding of the Constitution, adding that no constitutional amendment is required for the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord.
