CPI(M) state secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury strongly condemned the incident involving the cousin brother of former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik. In a reaction on Monday, the Leader of the Opposition said that this is not an isolated incident. Ever since the current government came to power and those in authority gained control over the administration, all laws and administrative discipline have been disrupted and misused. Violating the laws of the country, they have been indulging in activities to fulfill their vested interests.

The Leader of the Opposition also demanded a proper investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment for the accused.
