December 8, 2025 marked the completion of four years of the BJP-run Agartala Municipal Corporation. To commemorate the fourth anniversary, various programmes were undertaken. As part of these programmes, on Friday, Ward No. 19 Corporator of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, Bhaswati Debbarma, took the initiative to distribute winter clothing among senior citizens of the ward.

On this occasion, a programme was organized near the old Batkhara Office area of Krishnanagar under Ward No. 19. The Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA, Dipak Majumder, attended the event as the chief guest, along with the Mandal Committee President of the Ramnagar Assembly constituency and other leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder strongly accused the previous municipal corporation administrators of gross negligence regarding the overall development of the city. He said that since 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken initiatives to develop 100 cities of the country as Smart Cities, and Agartala was one of them. The Central Government had sanctioned funds for the Agartala Smart City project, but the then municipal corporation authorities failed to start the work on time. He alleged that they feared the Central Government would gain credit for the project, which they did not want.

The Mayor further stated that after the BJP government came to power in 2018, and with the initiative of the BJP-run Agartala Municipal Corporation in 2021, work on the Agartala Smart City project finally began. He added that the transformation of Agartala city is now clearly visible through the Smart City plan.

During the programme, winter clothing was distributed among senior citizens of Ward No. 19. Mayor Dipak Majumder, Corporator Bhaswati Debbarma, and other guests present handed over the winter garments to the elderly residents.
