The war of words between the Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Minister of the state continues unabated. Whenever an issue arises or an opportunity presents itself, the Leader of the Opposition corners the Chief Minister, and the Chief Minister, on the other hand, does not delay in responding. This ongoing exchange has added a new dimension to discussions among the state’s intellectual circles.
On Wednesday, at a press conference held in the chamber of the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Opposition Leader Jiten Chowdhury expressed strong resentment over various statements made by the Chief Minister. His remarks were mainly in response to the Chief Minister’s repeated comments targeting the CPI(M). During the press conference, the Leader of the Opposition advised the Chief Minister to exercise restraint in his speech.
Within 24 hours of these remarks, the Chief Minister delivered a sharp rebuttal on Thursday at a public event. On Thursday, employees of the Health Department and the Tripura Government Homeopathic Doctors’ Association organized a blood donation camp at Agartala Government Nursing College, IGM Hospital. The camp was inaugurated by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha.
While addressing the gathering at the blood donation camp, the Chief Minister referred to the recent comments made by the Leader of the Opposition. He alleged that the Opposition Leader was speaking by following the style of Hitler’s propaganda minister, Goebbels, with the sole aim of misleading the people. He said the Opposition Leader was speaking in a manner that portrayed the Chief Minister as ignorant and factually incorrect.
The Chief Minister stated, “Whenever the truth is spoken, the opposition feels irritated. It causes a kind of itching.”
During his speech, the Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of blood donation. He said that blood has no caste or creed, and no one knows whose blood will save whom. At the time of blood donation, he said, donors have only one objective—to serve humanity.
