Residents of the Sahapathar area under the Jolaibari Assembly constituency in South Tripura district have alleged that their locality has remained untouched by development for a long time. According to locals, from the Left Front regime through subsequent governments, overall development in the area has largely remained out of reach.

After the BJP-led alliance returned to power in the state in 2023, hopes were rekindled among the people as Jolaibari MLA Shukla Charan Noatia was inducted as a minister. Many believed that since it was the minister’s own constituency, there would finally be improvements in roads, education, and communication facilities. However, the ground reality seems to have turned those hopes into disappointment.

The present condition of Sahapathar is such that in some places it appears as if no one lives there at all. This area, located adjacent to the railway line, was severely affected during the devastating floods that hit South Tripura district a few years ago. Locals allege that the damage caused at that time has still not been repaired.

Due to muddy and broken roads, residents face extreme hardship in their daily commute. The situation is especially difficult for children traveling to school. Students of the Rajkumar Rajoya Para School in Sahapathar have to cross waterlogged and muddy roads to attend classes. During the monsoon, the situation becomes even worse, forcing many parents to stop sending their children to school.

Residents claim that despite repeatedly demanding road repairs from Jolaibari Block Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tapas Dutta, no effective action has been taken so far. There are also allegations that Tapas Dutta behaves rudely with local people. Hurt by his conduct, residents are now demanding the intervention of the Mandal President and the minister.

According to locals, after winning the election, the minister has not found time to visit this area, which is why Sahapathar continues to remain deprived of development. The people are now urging Minister Shukla Charan Noatia to take appropriate steps to ensure overall development of the area.
