Stating that development is underway in all BJP-ruled states across the country, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha made this remark on Saturday while addressing a programme. On the same day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed two-storey building of Abhicharan Madhuchoudhury Para Higher Secondary School under Mohanpur subdivision.
While speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that many schools in the state, functioning since as early as 1948, are still in a dilapidated condition. “We have started working on infrastructure development,” he said. Taking a dig at the opposition, he asked, “If we can do it, why couldn’t they?” He alleged that infrastructure development was deliberately neglected in the past so that the light of education, especially among the tribal population, would not spread, and people would only understand what was dictated to them, which suited certain interests. For this reason, school infrastructure development was ignored, he claimed.
The Chief Minister further said that children are being sent outside for so-called Western education. “This is not education. Education is about shaping the right kind of human beings. Swami Vivekananda had said this,” he remarked. He added that to understand India, one must understand Swamiji, who, according to him, is India’s true ambassador.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s vision, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasized development for all, especially the development of tribal communities. Citing figures, he said there are 700 tribal communities in the country, while Tripura has 19 major tribal communities, along with more than 40 sub-tribes, many of which are on the verge of extinction. In such a situation, he said, it would not work if one community claimed exclusivity—whether Debbarma, Reang, or Chakma. “All 19 tribal communities, along with smaller groups, tribals, non-tribals, and minorities must move forward together. Only by taking everyone along can we build One Tripura, a New Tripura,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister also said that after Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister has been speaking about a “New India,” and similarly, the state government is talking about a “New Tripura.” He quoted the Prime Minister as saying, “We do not want advice, we want partners,” and added, “We too are saying that our government does not need advice. We know what needs to be done. We are working in the direction shown by the leadership that is running the country.”
Addressing the gathering, local MLA and State Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted various developmental achievements of the state government with supporting statistics.
From the same programme, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated newly constructed two-storey buildings of Tarapur Higher Secondary School and Gopalpur Higher Secondary School in Mohanpur, as well as the newly built two-storey building of Berimura Higher Secondary School in Bamutia.
