With the initiative of the Agartala Municipal Corporation and support from the state government, a Swadeshi Mela is set to be held at Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala from January 9 to January 11. The fair will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha. This was stated today by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder while addressing the media.
Ahead of the fair, Mayor Dipak Majumder inspected the preparatory work at Vivekananda Maidan. He was accompanied by Municipal Commissioner D. K. Chakma, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das, along with other officials.
After the inspection, the Mayor said that keeping Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan “Local for Vocal” in focus, such a Swadeshi fair is being organized in the state for the first time. On each day of the fair, lectures will be delivered on the use of indigenous products and the importance of Swadeshi awareness. Various cultural programmes will also be organized alongside.
The fair will also feature stalls offering traditional food from different communities and tribal groups of the state. The Mayor appealed to the people of the state to participate in the fair and enjoy it in the winter atmosphere.
