A sudden problem has arisen concerning the supply of cement, and it appears to be escalating into a serious issue. In hopes of resolving the matter, several truck owners and drivers involved in transporting cement from factories have decided to go on strike.
Since a large section of truck owners and workers in Teliamura are engaged in this line of work, the impact of the strike has already become noticeable in the area. From Tuesday morning, as part of their protest program, truck owners in Teliamura collectively decided to suspend their operations. Although the issue began in Teliamura, truck owners and workers from different parts of the state have now expressed their solidarity with the movement.
According to several truck owners, around two months ago, cement factories in Meghalaya suddenly reduced the transportation charges and began using their own trucks to send cement to the Barak Valley in Assam as well as to Tripura. As a result, local truck owners and workers in Tripura have been suffering significant financial losses.
Naturally, the key question now is how this ongoing strike by a large section of truck owners and workers will unfold in the coming days and whether it will lead to a resolution of the crisis.
