The school management committee members — led by the chairman — are extremely angry with the headmistress of the school. They say that ever since Nobolaxmi Debbarma became headmistress of Matinagar Higher Secondary School, everything from teaching to discipline has gone downhill. The headmistress reportedly refuses to pay attention to the management committee. When the chairman or any member comes to discuss school improvement, they are not even allowed to sit; they are mistreated. She reportedly does not pay much attention to students’ studies, does not come to school on time, and frequently skips school. She is said to have broken up the management committee and taken the school down the wrong path, which has caused teaching to deteriorate severely. As a result, some management committee members have been forced to resign. These allegations were made by the school management committee chairman, Shariful Islam.

He also alleged that for the past several months a group of unruly young men have been drinking inside the school boundary. They leave the school gate open and commit unpleasant acts in classrooms. Last night two fans were stolen from an eighth-grade classroom after the classroom door lock was broken. Not only that, all the water taps from the drinking-water tank were stolen. In addition, although students skip classes and roam around, the headmistress has reportedly taken no action. The school, which once had a good reputation, is now falling to pieces day by day.

When asked, the headmistress said all these claims are fabricated and false, and that she has been doing and will continue to do a lot for the school’s improvement. Meanwhile, the management committee alleges that a local gang is trying to tarnish their names, and the headmistress is taking advantage of that situation. After the two fans were stolen from the school on Wednesday night, the management committee filed a written complaint at Amtali police station requesting that those involved be identified and severely punished.
