After remaining quiet for a few days, the Tipra Students’ Federation (TSF) once again took to the streets demanding the introduction of the Roman script for the Kokborok language. On this day, the tribal-based student organization held a sit-in demonstration in support of the demand for the Roman script for Kokborok. The demonstration was held in the Circuit House area of the capital. TSF’s state leaders, along with leaders and supporters from the town and surrounding areas, were present at the programme.
Regarding the sit-in, TSF Vice-President John Debbarma said that 50 years have passed, yet Kokborok still does not have an officially accepted script. This cannot continue. He believes that the mentality of the Chief Minister, the state cabinet, and the administrative officials needs to change on this issue. Once the mindset changes, the problem will be resolved.

The Vice-President of the Tipra Students’ Federation further stated that all Kokborok textbooks must be written in the Roman script. The question papers for secondary and higher secondary examinations must also be in the Roman script. With these demands, they held the sit-in demonstration in the capital today. If necessary, this movement will be spread across the entire state.
