Nazir Hossain, also known as Hriday, is a resident of the Sri Lanka Basti area under the No. 9 Banamalipur Assembly Constituency. Several complaints have been filed against him at the East Police Station, the main allegation being drug peddling. He had been wanted by the police. On Friday night, based on secret information, the East Police Station received a tip-off that Nazir Hossain alias Hriday, along with a few other youths, was roaming near the Yogendranagar Railway Station.
Immediately, the East Police rushed to the station, cordoned off the area, and arrested Nazir Hossain alias Hriday. Another youth with him was also arrested — his name is Shyam Kumar Singh, a resident of Bihar. Realising the police presence, three more youths who were accompanying them managed to flee. The arrested duo were brought to the police station for interrogation.
On Saturday, East Police Station OC Subrata Debnath shared this information. He stated that Nazir Hossain used to supply illegal narcotics to different places via rail. He further mentioned that a large racket is involved in this case, and more details are required. Therefore, the arrested individuals would be produced before the court under an NDPS case on Saturday with a request for police remand.
Meanwhile, youth members and supporters of the Banamalipur unit of the Youth Morcha met East Police Station OC Subrata Debnath on Saturday. They demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of not only the detained accused but also all members of the drug racket involved. The Youth Morcha members alleged that an MLA from the opposition party tried to secure the release of the arrested individuals.
